The present continuous can be used to talk about the future when we refer to fixed plans or arrangements. / El presente continuo puede usarse para hablar del futuro cuando nos referimos a planes o arreglos ya organizados.

🔵 1. When do we use Present Continuous for the Future?
Present Continuous → Future sujeto + am/is/are + verbo -ING
Arrangements · Fixed Plans
📌 Plans already decided Planes ya decididos Something confirmed before the conversation
🤝 Arrangements with others Arreglos con otras personas Usually involves another person or group
🗓 Scheduled events Eventos personales programados Has a specific time, date or place
I am meeting my friend tomorrow. → Me voy a reunir con mi amigo mañana. (ya acordado)
She is visiting her grandmother this weekend. → Ella va a visitar a su abuela este fin de semana. (plan fijo)
We are flying to Cancun on Friday. → Viajamos a Cancún el viernes. (reserva hecha)
💡 Key clue: Time expressions like tomorrow, tonight, this weekend, on Friday, next week often appear with Present Continuous for future arrangements.

Afirmativa
Subject + am / is / are + verb-ing
We are traveling next week. → Nosotros viajamos la próxima semana.
He is starting a new job on Monday. → Él comienza un nuevo trabajo el lunes.
Negativa
Subject + am / is / are + not + verb-ing
I am not working tomorrow. → No voy a trabajar mañana.
They are not coming tonight. → Ellos no vienen esta noche.

🔵 Present Continuous — Arrangements
Used for specific arrangements already scheduled — specific time, place, or other people involved. / Para arreglos específicos ya organizados.
I am having dinner with my boss tonight. → Voy a cenar con mi jefe esta noche.
We are flying to Cancun on Friday. → Viajamos a Cancún el viernes.
She is meeting the doctor at 5 pm. → Tiene cita con el doctor a las 5 pm.
🟢 Be Going To — Intentions
Used for intentions or plans, not necessarily arranged with others. / Para intenciones o planes, no necesariamente organizados.
I am going to study tonight. → Voy a estudiar esta noche.
She is going to start exercising. → Ella va a empezar a hacer ejercicio.
I am going to see a doctor soon. → Voy a ver a un doctor pronto.
